New monitor suggestions

    Hi all,

I am looking for a suggestion for a new monitor (or indeed a good second hand one). At the moment I have a bog standard 17" Dell E177fp monitor with a 1280x1024 resolution. My PC is a maxed Dell Vostro 200 with the following:

    Core 2 Duo e8400 (3ghz 6M cache)
    4GB DDR2 RAM
AMD Radeon 5870 1GB Sapphire Vapor-x edition GPU

I know the PC is old but it plays most games on high settings at 1280x1024 comfortably so its perfectly ok for me. I do want to upgrade the monitor though. Would prefer something like 20" widescreen HD, but don't want to pay big money either. Where would be the best place to buy online? And what would be the best bricks and mortar shop? I have a one4all gift voucher so could be a handy way to spend it! Thanks

My monitor blew its bollox last nhight after 7 years. Was an Lg that was brilliant.

I bought an Acer last year, LED, and it looks very washed compared to my LG, so I'm weary of these LED monitors.

I'm going with a BENQ 24" from pixmania.com for €145. Independent reviews are pretty impressive and they are used as the standard monitor for a number of large gaming LANs and events.

Little bit more expensive but argos take one4all, you could also wait for it to go on sale, been on sale for €130 already at some point

Thanks all for the suggestions. The one in Argos appeals to me most because of the One4All issue. Although the Amazon one appears to be the best monitor. Will have to assess my options. Which of these would be the most 'future proof'?

Dont think you can really future proof a monitor, 1080p is 1080p, you'll get better picture quality, panel quality, response times etc if you spend more money but thats about it.

Other than that maybe an nvidia g sync monitor but they cost a lot of money right now
