    Hey folks
Im strongly thinking about starting cycling this year but not sure where to start,
I was wondering what type of bike would you recommend to someone starting off,

Now i plan on getting all the cycling gear and giving it a proper go and im in fairly good shape from years of gym work and running , but iv never given cycling a go,

Is it better to join a club or just go out and cycle from a to b and back ,

    1: Get a bike.
2: Get out as much as you can.

    The rest will follow...

    How much money you got?

    We can spend it all.

Set yourself a budget. Maybe leave off doing Bike To Work until you know are into it /know what you want.

Let's guess your budget is €500. Second hand bike e.g. from Adverts.ie, pick up clothing accessories from discount stores like Aldi, safety items and a good lock from a bike store and go. Cycle 10k then build up. If you get drawn to it, use the bike scheme to get a decent bike that suits your cycling goals, keeping your original one for commuting, errands or maybe winter spins. Good luck!!

    And then some.

Over on the music forum they call it GAS - Gear Acquirement Syndrome.

I have been diagnosed with both the musical instrument and cycling variants of this ailment. My wallet is permanently empty.

But on a serious note, Rambling Man's advice is worth heeding.

Hi there, get bike on bike to work scheme . I did this a year or so ago. Check out cycling Ireland for charity events etc to give yourself something to aim at. Cycling in a group will help push you on and learn tips for cycling etc. good time of year to get started. Enjoy and good luck

Depends on your height, shape , weight, , is it just pleasure cycling? Commuting, exercise? If all of the above then a hybrid may be your best bet,

Bike shop in UCD sell second hand bikes, and buy them back when you progress, they also do cycling tours . Spend as much as you can on a good lock, and good lights. Good luck :)
