    Volvo all day erry day.

    More comfort
    More engine
    More refinement
    More spec
    More 4wd

Volvo all day too, it's got an extra cylinder for superior refinement, is more reliable and doesn't have the crap power delivery and gearing of the IS220.

Agreed with previous posters as a IS250 auto owner. Different type of cars too.

    Volvo. No-brainer.

    The Volvo ...

    But that AD is terrible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Tea 1000

The Volvo is more comfortable, better engine, bigger car. But it is dull to drive. The IS has a better chassis and better steering, but is small enough inside and the engine and gearbox don't belong together.

Love my IS250, but I wouldn't touch a 220D. Also, the IS the same segment as an S40.

    Well that's pretty resounding OP.

I don't think the one linked in the OP is either.....Mis-decribed in the ad I'd say.

Not sure which version of the D5 engine that would be - probably 184bhp at that stage, which I think is single turbo.

S80 would be a fantastic cruiser, with massive amounts of torque on tap when required. IS would be more fun to drive, as long as you can find the right gear for the engine.

S60 was more a rival to the IS in size. S40 is smaller again and more of a rival to the A3/1 Series.

Thanks for the feedback guys... looking like the Volvo is the obvious choice.

I'm trying to find a decent car with all the toys but they are hard to find, I'm not sure what year the facelift came out either, 08 or 09....jesus

Volvo (as if another &1 is needed)
Its more that the IS isn't a great package

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,866 ✭✭✭✭bear1

Btw, that IS is so far overpriced it's a joke.
    12k for a 7 year old car, on DD I was seeing 2006/07 IS's for 6/7k.
I have a thread also where I linked the IS and even though it's spec is impressive to say the least, there are just too many complaints about the gearbox.
Some say you need to get used to driving it differently than other cars. It probably could be something I could live with, but it's the head gasket problems which scare me tbh.
    Google it and see

Why not check out the IS250, none of the problems of the 220D and the savings will pay for a lot of petrol/tax.

That is true, although the price difference between them is actually quite small.

    Just an update:
Went for an S80 in the end, the D5. Very comfy I have to say, bit of poke when needed but for simple comfort from A to B, its been a dream. Now to pay for the bloody tax:mad:

D5 engine is a Volvo unit, very refined (for a diesel) and is an overall good engine.

I've got a Volvo myself, S40 diesel and I always bring it to Loughrea.
Garage there called Lakeside, family run place and they've been brilliant, quick and cheap with any issues I've had with my Volvo.
Don't know if this helps you but in Galway City I wouldn't be too familiar.

Oafley, dont meant to railraod the thread, Do you have kids?, i hear you cant fit a rear facing baby seat in the back of an IS250, I was about to buy one until google said not to!, now im still looking for a car... :(

I have an is250. It is not a good car to ferry kids around practicality wise. Rear/Boot space is limited and access to space is bad as well. No worse than e46 I had before though.

Who told you that? Any car with a three point seatbelt in the back will fit a rear facing baby seat. It's not until you have 3 kids that small cars (like the IS250) won't be big enough any more to fit 3 seats :)

Huge amount of people online posting (mainly stateside) saying that they cannot fit a rear facing baby seat in the back without putting passenger seat right up against dashboard!, Have you had one in your IS?

Ive a three month old, it's a disaster of a car for that age group. ****e boot and all. You can fit a baby seat, but you've to push the seat forward to get it in. I haven't had a chance to use the base with my car yet, but I'm not looking forward to it.

    Thanks for that
TBH thats what the reviews online are saying, So its not just a case of the passenger seat being all the way forward to fit the baby seat in, You actually have to move the seat all the way forward ot get it in?

Sounds like a disaster, i sent you a pm also, Whats the Real mpg like in city driving?
