HI all, i am a single mother of two children. My Ex partner up and left, does not see or pay for my children. i am now on loan parents but am so eager to work. i have applied to many places but if get full time employment i loose my rent allowance and rent childcare and other bills will just not be possible. I am thinking of a fas course but i have heard i am entitled to childcare help?? does anyone know such a thing and how do i apply??

i went to court and got 15 per child per week maintenance but to date havent received a penny? im afraid to go back to court as i think now where just better off without the father!!

if someone could let me know what i could do in this situation id be grateful:) :)

Check out the ECCE schemes, avaliable at most crèches, it covers a certin number our hourse per week, and there are other criteria. Look it up. It can make a difference.

http://www.welfare.ie/en/pressoffice/Pages/pr240413.aspx have a look at this and see if it is in operation in your area.

contact your local Childcare Committee, they will have a list of community creches in your area. They are funded to provide subsidised childcare to people in reciept of benefits.

Also, if you do a course, either with FAS or the VEC, you can get CETS which is heavily subsidised childcare.
If I were you I would ask to move to the RAS scheme, that will give you some housing security, and you can work and retain some level of assistance with housing.

You can also get FIS if you are working. Sorry for all the acronyms. Get onto Citizens Infirmation or Treoir and they can explain in more detail. There is a way out of this poverty trap!

    +1 on the RAS scheme.

Although there are cons to it, there are big positives too.
The biggest catch with Rent Allowance is that if you return to full-time employment, you would lose your RA, but with RAS, you can go back to work and still only pay 10% to the council.

It's definitely something you should consider.
