Cow that threw calf 8 weeks prem,
IMO cow is too good and young to cull, hopefully she will call again quick and may get a calf out off her by the end of the year

would people tube her or seeing as she has been dried off since last october and her teats are sealed would it be more harmful to tube her and break the seal

If she has-not been sucked I was always told that you do not have to tube!

Did she bag up or anything ?
I could be way off but maybe an antibiotic incase she has anything after aborting would do the trick .

Well I suppose keep an eye on her to see , she might be grand without any intervention .
Another thought that might be miles out but if she did bag up with milk would it be as handy to buy a calf and let her rear it ? It might be as cheap as 16/17 months out of production

i had thought about that, but calves 450 euro at moment and I dont have the time to spend with her to get her to take,
also risk of buying calf in

I had 250/300 in mind . Time could be a hoor depending if the calf takes or not alright . As for the risk , there could be more risk with the german intern !

Hugo, would she be fit for the factory? You could cut your losses and re invest in an in-calf.

Had considered that too mac, but she is a serious cow with loads milk, would be a shame to cull,

She probably make 1200 in couple weeks,

It's a balls alright, but back it with what you might spend on a calf or the cost of one unproductive year from the cow and you could have another serious outfit. Happened us a while back and we factoried and bought in.

Even if she was bulled in the morning (and she won't for a month or 2) she will have been dry for a year next October. Given a cost of €600 to keep her for a year you were maybe better off out of her. Would 1200 go far in buying a springer even if older. The same €600 will nearly keep her and you will have a weanling to sell and possibly a cow if you wanted to upgrade.
I know that it's easier said than done though and I could be wrong.
Also I don't think there's any need to tube her. She will have sealed up and unless she bagged up hugely like she's ready to calve she won't have broken the seal. Tubing her would be unnecessary hardship for yourself with a suckler.
