Any users have experience on this? Wifi signal from built in router in the horizon box is terrible. Not to mention my box is in a unit hampering the signal strength.

I'm contemplating buying an airport extreme to manage my wifi and looking for advice.

    Thanks,

    Pros

Its an ac router so good futureproofing there, though you probably dont have any ac devices.

It looks pretty, Could stick it anywhere.

Will integrate seamlessly with other apple devices.

    Cons

A couple of reviews say its wifi range is not great so I'd be hesitent at buying it as a device to extend the wifi range of horizon.

    It costs 200 quid.

No Airplay, if that applefanboy stuff is your thing, I dont even know what that means.

Sounds like a compelling upgrade, I'm actually thinking of doing the same and going with the AirPort Extreme alongside the UPC modem - whatever UPC offer with their bundles cannot be of high quality.

I wouldn't recommend using stock UPC devices to begin with, my D-Link router of over 10 years (back from the Irish Broadband days even) performed better than the equipment sent out. Acquiring external equipment is a given.

The AirPort Extreme looks like an all rounder, high .11ac speeds and very good range (given the size of houses in Ireland, any router would do). If you don't have any .11ac devices, the technology will be rolled out eventually - the generation won't be skipped. It can even improve the performance of non-.11ac devices, you never know. I believe my MacBook has .11ac built in so the more adapters of the tech, the better.

I'd recommend that option, will look into doing the same very soon.
