I was double parked at 1am outside my workplace. I left in the car and was stopped 5 minutes later by the gardaí about 4 miles away to inform me that I now have a parking ticket being issued in the post - Is this legal as there was no notification of a ticket left on the car and I was stopped in a different location?

Why would it be illegal ?

The guard observed you parking illegally and has issued the penalty accordingly.

Your options are 1. pay the ticket and forget about it or, 2. try and argue that you weren't illegally parked in Court. It's fairly cut-and-dried, this one.

Are you sure it was 1am and not 1pm? 1am isn't exactly rush hour so you'd think they could be a bit more lenient whereas 1pm would be fairly busy and you could be in the way.

Either way if they gave you a ticket, pay it. Not worth the hassle imo.

1am - Workplace is a bar which I was locking up. The guard in question is known to be a bit of an A-Hole.
3rd time in 2 weeks he has stopped me for no reason.
I told him it wasnt me and he was having none of it :)

So you lied to the Garda, well that was a great start.

Now that you've called him "an A-Hole" I'm sure things will start getting better. You admit to being double parked, you were caught, /thread?

Yes - I was hardly going to admit it :D
Im not denying being there but I think the way he went about it is a bit strange. He could have waited for me to come out and inform me straight away but instead obviously watched me coming out and then followed me for 4 miles before stopping me :)
FreudianSlippers - If you only knew

He probably thought he could get you for drink driving too. Just pay the ticket.

If there's a guard out looking to get you, then stop giving him reasons to cause you hassle.

Did you have your hazard lights on when parked illegally?

Could someone more authoritative than me maybe put to bed the idea that Gardai get promotions and/or bonuses for enforcing traffic law through issuing fines?

(And maybe extend that to clampers. It seems to be a common assumption that individual employees of clamping companies get a 'per clamp' commission. No idea if that's in any way true.)

Your parking ticket has the location and it's issued time on it. Either the ticket was out of view or the warden was unsighted. There is contact details on the ticket for paying, queries, etc onto the ticket; call them ASAP if it is out of order.
