Deciding on a venue

    Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster in the wedding forum. Finally doing some planning after being engaged for nearly a year.

Been to see 3 venues so far, one was discounted straight away, the other two are under consideration but we have said we will view one more before making our choice.

The two under consideration are Middleton Park House and Boyne Hill House. I love the aesthetics of MPH but prefer the smaller more intimate feel of Boyne.

Could anyone recommend a venue that is a middle ground between these two? The only musts are exclusive use and within an hour so of Dublin.

    Thank you in advance.............

Hoping to keep costs at a max of €70 a head. Looking at winter time in the hopes to get the most bang for our buck.

I liked Boyne Hill but would depend on number of guests for reception.
Have you seen the Station House OP?

I would suggest Trudder Lodge in Enniskerry and Clonabreany in meath although they are part marquee. Also maybe consider the Millhouse in Slane and Tankardstown, both near to each other.

Thanks for the replies so far!

Pooch90 - no I haven't been to see Station house but ruled it out going on feedback I had heard from others. Looking at 100 guests.

Sweetie - ill have a look at Trudder and Tankardstown. I know the names but will have a good look at them again. Unfortunately Millhouse and Clonbreaney are ruled out due to other friends having their weddings there, but they're the types of places that we're after!

I had mentally ruled out the Station House too but when we went to view it we fell in love.

Clonabreany is stupid money for feck all IMHO.

Darver castle is one worth looking at going on your wishlist.

    Hi there,
I'm getting married in Clonabreany House it's in Meath so distance wise would suit you. They have a fab permanent marquee it's where the Irish Bake Off series was filmed.
I was at a wedding in Boyne Hill House....the staff are brilliant and so friendly and the lounge bar area is great for your reception...only problem is the room upstairs makes divisions for your guests as a good few will be seated around a corner. But still a great venue...a mate in work did Middleton Park and raved about it!

I spent last night checking out the places advised. Trudder and Tankardstown are fab and I liked the looks of Darver too. I know I didn't mention it in the OP but I'd love as many of the guests as possible to stay on site so this is where Boyne is coming up trumps.

Pooch90, I might take your advice and go see the station house if I'm going down to Boyne again.

Mountain Girl, I've heard great things about Clonbreaney but I've ruled it out due to a friends wedding being there this year. Best of luck with it! Thanks for the feedback on the other two, I wasn't crazy about the funny shaped dining room either but I could probably get over it seeing as you're evening part is elsewhere. Still holding some love in my heart for MPH and that beautiful entrance way but worried about the party being split with dancing and bar being in separate rooms.

Decisions, decisions. Think we're going to do a pros and cons list over the weekend!

Thanks again for the help everyone!

check out "the village at lyons" its in celbridge co kildare only 15 mins from m50 and they will cater for what ever you want from 30 per head to a 100 euro per head.
we are getting married there this day next year and the settings is beautiful in the winter. big open fires, a mill waterfall out the window
its not like any hotel you take over the place for the day and all the people out there cant do enough for you.
    best of luck

    Hi Roy Rodger,

Just looked at Village at Lyons - even though I know of the place I can't believe I've never looked at their website before. The venue looks stunning!
I think I had the impression that it was very expensive so didn't bother but if they are open to working within budgets thats great.

Do you know how many people it can sleep? Can't seem to find that out.

I always taught it was over our budget but when we called out to them they gave us many ideas so we settled on having a buffet bringing our own wine and we are getting married in the venue. the whole idea is have a very relaxed day with music all day.

there is only 17 rooms in the place but they are fab!! there is a 3 bedroom house on the site that can sleep 6 but they were telling me that sometimes instead of a residents bar your can have a house party in it and bring your own drink and usually next morning there is bodies all over the place the girl was telling me..

There is also B&B and hotels within 15mins of the venue they were telling us and that they could organize the transport to and from these places

Just emailed them, Roy Rodger, to arrange a viewing.

The whole house party vibe sounds brill.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope everything goes well you!
