Hi all. Does anybody know what the statute of limitations is for burglary and criminal damage in Ireland. The garda on the case is telling me 6 months but I don't believe her.

I'm going to take a mad stab in the dark here and guess you know the offender and gave their name to the garda?

Thanks all but I already checked that and can't find any reference to it. Not easily anyway! Yes, we caught the perpetrator, have two witnesses and still the garda on the case is saying it's all just so difficult. 8 months later. They have never even gotten a statement from him.

An accused does not have to give a statment. As the matter is indictment there is no time limit. The six months to request a summons only applies to minor matters.
