Galaxy s3 freezing with custom rom

The missus wanted me to update her s3 to 4.4 KitKat, so went about flashing a custom ROM. I used team win recovery and used official 4.4.2 AOKP ROM (from here http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxy-s3-i9300-gets-new-android-4-4-2-kitkat-update-official-aokp-rom-1431617)

The ROM installed OK and I flashed Google apps. It started up nice and quick, setting up the phone, gmail account, etc. But after about 5 mins the phone freezes up and I have to reboot it, only for the same to happen again.
What woiulkd be the cause of this? Should I try another ROM?

Try OmniRom. Smooth as a smooth thing on a smooth stick.

Make sure you are using the latest TWRP.

I think something has changed. Mine on darkyrom suddenly started freezing often. I used kies to revert to stock and that solved it.

Was on various darkyrom for about a year before it started freezing.

Now my phones full of cack

Check the zip version of G apps. Occasionally if you are flashing the wrong build it will do that.
I have seen a couple of g app uninstall zips but prefer going back to the start. Try using a pure version of Cynogen. Easy way to get the right g app is install GOOMANAGER down load the right version and reflash
