I want to paint some old door frames and I need some advice.
There are some cracks in the timber that need to be filled. There is also the place where the old lock receiver used to be which also needs to be filled.
What is the best way to fill these which will give a nice smooth finish.
I have removed all the old paint so I am back to bare wood. Should I prime the wood before or after filler. I will be painting the frames white to finish.
    Thanks.

You could use a product like plastic wood. I've used it in the past for similar type of repairs. The Hole where the lock was can be filled with timber first and finished again with plastic Wood.
