Disposal of old wire.

Well lads I've done a lot of fencing over the last couple of years and replaced most of the old wire, as a result I've a small mountain of old wire, all different types and none of it any good. The local scrap man won't take it coz he says it will get wrapped up in his machinery (which is fair enough) so anyone dispose of wire recently? It annoys me every morning when I walk past it:mad:

Shove it into a steel drums, flatten them and then try another scrappie? Could be a fair bit of work....

Crush it up as best you can yourself, flatten it with the bucket of a loader or something. Get it as small as you can, then try the scrappie again. Either he has it too good or he's an amateur, never heard of a scrap man refusing wire.

Any harm to ask who that is? Price of scrap AFAIK is low now, I'm hearing 100 a ton for heavy stuff.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

local scrap man had a huge ball of wire about the size of a VW Golf that he grabs with the Senneboggan handler, uses it like a giant brillo pad to sweep up all the little bits of steel and keeps the concrete clean. If you had an old car or metal oil tank going for scrap you could pack it into that.

if you were closer if of taken it off your hands. Young lad next door is into it in a big way now. Strips cars of anything useful and then straight to scrappie with them. As has been said before try place in a car, drum, tank etc and flatten.

Brought a 8x4 foot six trailer of old galvanise sheeting to the yard today. It was so rusty was almost ashamed to bring it. But rust weights very well it seems!
47 euro. Then saw the lad lifting a trooper ready to crush it. Asked nicely and he threw it over on its side. Brand new looking exhaust system on it. 7 euro for the exhaust and I thought that was a right result. :)

Only needed the short "Flexy" bit, but not passing up on that chance! The rest of the trooper was coming out of the crusher about 3x3x4 square before I was out of the yard.

Saw a machine for wrapping pallets of product crushed. Some-one had protected all the electrics and hydraulic motors to keep them safe, at some point. Had a great hydraulically run turntable, and a hydraulic device for moving the cling film roll up and down vertically.
Was standing wondering how to make a bale wrapper out of it, when the guy on the Sennebogen grabbed it and dumped it into the crusher. Good job I don't work there, wouldn't last a week before the breakdown!

The local dump/recycling place here is using mchale balers and wrappers for getting stuff baled for transport

    Plastics, cardboard, paper I presume?

Any film footage? Would be interesting to see.

Anyone remember the "orkel" brand of round baler, Norwegian, I think. Saw one a long time ago, and it was a top loading baler with a single chop harvester built into it. One pass operation, just no wilting.
