Do I have to fill out form CG1 if I filled out form 12?

    Hi,

I was under the impression that if you declare your capital gains (from shares) in form 12, then you are already making a tax return and don't have to fill out form CG1.

I paid my CGT, and returned form 12 before Oct 2013, where my CGT was declared.

Later in November I received a letter from tax office, that I have to fill out form CG1. I did that and sent it back.

Now I got another letter where I'm asked to pay an additional 25euro for filing a late tax return.

Can I appeal this? I did declare the capital gains on time in my form 12.

    Thanks

I would think the form 12 should have sufficed.

Call them. Should be easy to sort out over the phone.

Thanks. Finally managed to sort it out. Form 12 suffices and the surcharge was cancelled.

I used to say that Revenue is like Organized Crime. Turns out they are not so organized.
