Looking for some advice thought here was best to ask but mods feel free to move if needs be

I'm getting my son a set of goalposts (as in just the one goalposts) for his birthday. We've an older girl that is also involved in underage gaa. They're both only starting out but will stick with it so I want something that will last.

I've quickly ruled out the plastic ally looking ones from the regular toy stores and then did a quick search online. The gaa stores is giving me a 6x4 foot for just shy of €100 (delivered).

Just wanted opinions. Is this way too 'professional'? Or ideal? We've a half acre site with plenty of long stretches of grass with little/no planting done so I reckon they should get a good run with it.

    Hubby isn't so sure.

    Any opinions/advise? Ta'

I presume you are refering to this http://www.thegaastore.com/en/The-GAA-Store-Gaelic-Goalpost-6ft-x-4ft/m-6137.aspx .Would I be correct? I am not too sure what you mean when you say too 'professional' ,but at a quick glance it seems fine it can be assembled and disassembled and it can be moved around its fairly sturdy and durable but like everything if its abused it wont last very long, its only worth getting if your kids are really into GAA and will make use of it.After that its up to you to make a decision

Hi, 6x 4 is very small for young lads and girls playing around with in the back garden. I bought a goalpost 10 x 6 with hurling net and it is a great job. You have plenty room so go for the bigger goals. I got the 10 x 6 for xmas and it cost 150euro. delivered. Gaa store was over 200 for same goal. Pm me if you want number of company I bought from. It can be assembled and dismantled quickly and comes with a carry bag. Good strong quality.

    Thanks a mill for replying.
Youngest is mad into it - and the eldest just needs to build up confidence.

you are better off investing in a set of aluminium posts if you ask me.
    they will last years.

or ask a local engineering company to put a set together.

Smyths Toys have decent range of GAA posts. We got 2 different sizes. 1 small for lawn and other (Probably 5 or 6ft crossbar height) for a field beside the house. Easy to build and sturdy once you anchor them well.

The quality is not great on them, they go lobsided easy enough as the cross bar/upright are not strengthend where they join. Pay the extra money and you will have them for yrs. Pm me if you want the number of where I got them.
