Does anyone know how crowded the DART would be at about 4:40 PM going southbound between Sandymount and Dún Laoghaire? I've read a lot about DART overcrowding and reduced peak time capacity, however I'm not a frequent DART user.

It will be fine. It won't get jammers until after 5.

Fairly packed all right. There is still a bit of standing room on it but not much and the DARTs are 6-8 cars at that stage. Alot depends on the Trinity college times of the day. There were 2 DARTs close together yesterday at that time, the 8 cars was jammers and a 6 car just 5mins after it was empty as the 8 cars was doing all the sweeping after a big gap. I was watching from the north bound platform at Landsdown Road.

There's a dart the terminates in Dun Laoghaire and serves Sandymount about 4.40 and that's usually quiet enough, will always get a seat on it. There is one to Greystones about 5 mins before that and it is usually fairly full, but still plenty of standing room. It's after 5 that it gets jammed

The two Darts the two previous posters mention look like the trains that pass through Sandymount at 16:38 and 16:42. The first one is coming from Howth and going all the way to Greystones, the second is from Connolly and only going as far as Dun Laoghaire.

The fact that the second train has only served a few stations by the time it gets to Sandymount, is serving a shorter route and that it's only four minutes after the earlier train explains why the second train Captain Chaos saw yesterday was relatively empty.

If you miss the 16:42, that pattern is repeated 10 minutes later when there is a Howth-Bray train at 16:52 followed by a Connolly-Dun Laoghaire train at 16:58.
