Usually start to notice players from smaller countries (who value the WC as an honour) not doing much on the pitch for their clubs between now and end of season.

Falcao Suffers Knee Injury in Coupe de France, Could Miss World Cup

Players ruled out of World Cup with Knee Injuries

    Walcott
    Khedira
    Bruma (Portugal)
    Kruse (Australia)

    Players with recent Knee Injuries

    Falcao

    Rossi 3 months
    Nasri 2 months
    Lucas 2 months

According to latest reports from Germany Khedira has not yet been ruled out. He is well ahead of schedule in terms of recovery, and at this point they are reasonably hopeful that he will be fully fit for the WC.

Good for him, he hasnt being bothered to try play the last few weeks, maybe he will come back and value his football a bit more

Is rossi out injured again with his knee? He tore his Acl about 2 years ago then apparently broke down near his comeback.

Is that the same injury or has he done it again?

Really hope he can make it to the world cup, unlikely though.

Such a shame when a top player is going to miss out on a WC when he is in his prime, a huge loss to Columbia, but Jackson Martinez isn't a bad 3rd choice striker. Only just noticed that we are due to play them in Bogota in June, would have been good to see how we would have handled Falcao.

Martinez, Ibarbo and Muriel are all good options, Columbia have great depth there... But none of them are Falcao.

I hope he doesn't rush back for the WC and damage the knee further, but I'd say its a risk he is willing to take.

Even if Poland is not qualified...but Borussia Dortmund's Kuba joined the list of casualties

Bryan Oviedo might miss the World Cup as well.

When it comes down to it for football players the knee is the most common source of long term injury. When you have 600+ players gearing up for a tournament you're always going to lose a certain % to this kind of injury. Shame it had to happen to someone like Falcao although I hear he hasn't given up hope of making it back in time.

Stuart Holden had surgery on his knee and will be out for 6 to 9 months. The lad has no luck.

Looks like it. Same knee as last time. 23 minutes in to his first reserve game after his previous injury.

His contract with Bolton is up this summer.

Poor lad is probably done now.

The GAA is having a crisis with ACL injuries at minute..

    Its a horrible injury.

Anything knee relate is, but ACL is the pits

Tell me about it. Had surgery in December 2012 on my left knee. Heard an interesting theory that blades boots are too blame for the increase

It amazes me tho that they rush these guys back! I waited 12 months before I attempted turning and pivoting!

There have been huge leaps in the treatment of ACL and MCL injuries and the recovery time is a lot quicker these days, thats if you have the moola for top level treatment obv.

In fairness, the care he was getting and the facilities he had access was probably be ten-fold to the access to care and facilities you had!

Agreed 1million per cent but at the end of the day they drill a hole threw the centre of your knee. All the physio in the world can't speed up that healing

I agree to a point but these professional footballers

    - will have access to the best surgeons.
    - will have access to physio etc. on a daily basis.
    - will 'probably' have a stronger baseline strength prior to injury.
    - will probably have had surgery sooner post injury, can have an MRI etc. much sooner.

    had 2 MCL injuries myself
there fine as they heal themselves & your not too long out

Could always be a freak like Adrian Peterson (NFL RB). Tore his ACL and MCL in late December 2011, was back playing after 8 months and had one of the best seasons ever by a RB that year, and won both Offensive Player of the Year and MVP.

I know what the medial and lateral are but just wasn't sure if thats what you were referring too. Didn't realise they both heal them selfs either

Rodriguez looks as if he has torn his ACL too
also Jese is another one recently who had an outside chance of making the Spain squad ruined by a Knee injury
    in the last month alone
theres been Strootman,Valdes,Jese & probably Rodriguez all out of World Cup with an ACL tear
