    Hi

    I am buying a hyundai i40 from an Hyundai garage but the car was imported from the UK.

    I was just wondering do they have to change the clocks from miles to kilometres ?

    Thanks

    Pretty sure it's not needed; Plenty of pre-2002 cars still going around with gauges in miles.

    And still, notwithstanding the fact that the imperial units were supposedly phased out of Ireland in 2005, everybody still talks about miles and gallons - sometimes going through interestingly convoluted efforts to extract MPG figures out of odometers in km and pumps in liters :)

    It might be possible to change units with the menu screen between clocks works on my golf

    You won't be able to change the speedo but it should be possible to change the fuel computer units from mpg to km/l

    Can you do it on a c4 grand picasso?:(

    That's simply not true. You can change the units on anything, it just varies in complexity.

    It's always possible to change the instrument cluster over. You'll need to purchase a metric cluster for the vehicle and fit it, then correct the odometer reading to the metric equivalent of what was on the imperial instrument cluster.

    A brand new cluster from the manufacturer should be programmable by manufacturer diagnostic tools (I know this can be done on a VAG cluster if it has less than 100 km on it, but it's a one time only change). This is the easiest option for a changeover, but the most expensive. You can probably also get the dealer to sign off on the change to protect against possible accusations of clocking later.

    If you want to use a second hand cluster, you will need a means of adjusting the odometer reading on the new one. This is technically the same as clocking, but its legitimate since you're setting a used cluster to the correct reading for your vehicle. Having the odometer verified may be more difficult in this scenario.

    Personally I'd do it. We're a metric country so it makes life easier for you and for future owners of the vehicle. Plus the sooner the Imperial/USC systems are consigned to history the better. The metric system is so much nicer and easier to work with.

    My CC only shows miles, my previous 3 Series showed both.

    so on most VAG stuff, you can set the country coding to the UK, so all units etc on the dash show up in imperial (MPG, MPH etc), but naturally the clocks stay in the units they are marked with.

    newer stuff has the option in the menus to change the units mostly shown, but it doesn't typically change as much as a country re-code.

    cheers

    t.

    How about this? It is for KMH to MPH, but they say they can do it both ways. I wouldn't know how easy an i40 cluster is to take apart, but it would be cheaper than replacing the cluster as a whole.

    Same here, but it has a digital KM readout in the centre which is handy.

    Yes you can on a C4 GP, go to the settings menu and you can change from MPG to L/100km, this also changes the speedo and odo.

    50 = 30

    80 = 50

    100 = 60

    120 = 75

    Just saved yourself a fortune now!
