I Origins

Having premiered at Sundance this week to divisive reviews - picking up the Alfred P.Sloan prize along the way - I Orgins is the sophomore effort from Mike Cahill, director of 2012's Another Earth. Following its reception, Fox Searchlight has acquired distribution rights for the feature and we should see a release in 2014.

Like its predecessor, I Origins seems to be another film with existential focus. Though the trailer has yet to drop and details are scant, a short blurb reads:

'Written and directed by Mike Cahill, and starring Michael Pitt, Brit Marling, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, I ORIGINS follows a molecular biologist whose study of the human eye points to evidence with far reaching implications about our scientific and spiritual beliefs.'

Having won the Sloan award (which incidentally was also won by Another Earth), I imagine this film has some of the same loose sci-fi elements of Cahill's debut.

I think he's an interesting storyteller; Another Earth held a lot of promise, and finally armed with some kind of budget, I'm hoping this works out for him. I for one look forward to it.

    Trailer landed last week:

It's not blowing me away, but Cahill's take on the meaning of life should be interesting. I fear Brit Marling, who I quite enjoy, is going to end up playing the same kind of character in every film she does.

Loving this movie so far. Surprised there hasn't been a big thread about this movie.
