I said I will put it through it in Late feb..am I right in thinking that when/if it passes the NCT will be valid until July 2014

She only does 50KM a week. I never took any notice

It'll be valid only til the next date of first registration.

So if NCT expired on July 1st 2013, if you do it now it'll expire on June 30th 2014.

Besides the general dig at women for some reason when you've been here long enough to see how many men are asking about forgetting to nct car...

Why wait to late Feb? Tell her to keep ringing NCT for a slot and get it done soon instead. I'm sure she doesn't want the 5 points on her licence if she gets nabbed.
And yeah, it'll be until July this year.

Firstly, forgive me - I am a woman. Moving on - do you receive a letter from the NCT for a car's first test - ie a 2010 reg. Most people I know receive reminders months in advance. Mine will be due before 1st March and haven't seen anything yet. Should I just go ahead and book it without a notification number etc.?

Google it I did, and I know that I can book in, it still doesn't answer my question though really. Does a car that's due for it's first test actually get a reminder in the post...I'd hate to save them the cost of a postage stamp to be honest. :D

Afaik they did away with all letters. It's up to you to remember to book it online or by phone regardless of first test or not.
As you can book the test 3 months in advance you can set a reminder in calendar/phone to notify you.

give them a ring at this stage or you won't get it done before the due date.

I'm Ok with you being a Woman...about half my friends are! :-)

How old is the car? It could be until July 15 if it's less than 10 years old.

They seem to randomly send the letters to people. Got one in December.

The letters went to herself..she thought i knew but clearly i didnt

I have told her to book it asap.i would hazard a guess it would be 3weeks plus b4 she gets a date

well he would, an early 03 tested early.

I must be missing something it should be nct in 07,09,11 and 13 and then every year as 10 years old so in my mind his disc should expire in april.

yep every year and he just did the 2014 test, which covers up to 2015...you can do it up to three months early

So he skipped getting it done in 13,never got pulled and is ok now.

looks like it, must have scraped in on the three months!

Driving around with nct out since april 2013 til now was risky.

It does seem the Gards are taking a bit more seriously now. It's a big fine and 5 points plus perhaps an impound fee

So bit the bullet and decided to go online an book my NCT without a letter. The next available dates in the 2 closest test centres are April 9th and 10th - which I don't believe for a second - this January and they have pretty long opening hours. Why won't they just allow all available dates online for booking?

Dont book on line, ring them.

Yes, going to that and know that I'll get an earlier date that way but that's what I don't understand - why not just have it easier to book online and make it easier for everyone?

Agreed with you, why can they give you a date with in 2 weeks on phone,on line 2 months?

because you are getting a cancelation before it gets put back up online
