Error 99 canon EOS 400D on Flash

    Hello,
When the built in flash on my Canon EOS 400D is used I get the generic error 99 message. Been like this for a while now. Only happens when using flash. Rather than sending it off to Canon and paying more than it's worth to get it fixed I was thinking of buying a flash for it for about €50.

My concern is that when I go to use the new flash I'l get the error 99 again. Anyone any knowledge of the technical aspects of whether built-in and external flash mechanisms are related or is it just a case of try it and see??

    Thanks for any help.

Other option would be just walk into any shop and ask them to try it out, usually they have some display items.in fairness the built in flash is rather useless anyway so it would be a nice addition.
