    Hi Guys,

I have noticed lately that my power steering is getting very stiff when trying to turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary, also first thing in the morning and when the car has being lying for a day or two there is a very bad squeeling sound coming from the power steering, the sound is very similar to the squeel of a fan belt going, this sound only lasts for a few minutes until the car warms up, I have checked the power steering fluid and it is at the correct level, would appreciate if anyone would any idea what this problem might be, thanks.

    Dave.

When was the fluid last changed? You'd be surprised the differance changing the fluid can do, sounds to me like that could be the issue if there is a lot of dirt in the system it will be more noticable when cold. I'd drain it all out and put in new fluid before looking any further. If it's not that it could be the pump but try the less expensive fix first, it isn't a big job.

Sounds like the belt's slipping a bit - it'll either need adjustment or replacement depending on how worn it is.
