    Hi ladies,

Bit embarrassing... I need to get a full bikini wax for a procedure soon enough.. I've never had it done before and I'm very nervous..

Has anyone any tips for a virgin waxer? I want to maintain this once i get it done as well so how long does it last?

Depending on where you're based try to go to Waxperts or to a salon who use Waxperts wax. I don't know what's in the stuff but it's as close to low/no pain wax as I've ever encountered. It's also really important to find a place that doesn't double dip, that's using a spatula to apply wax and then putting the same spatula back into the pot to get more wax. Some salons will tell you the heat of the wax kills all bacteria...well it doesn't. And salons get 6-8 bikini waxes out of a pot, do you really want to be girl 6? Ewwww

Don't schedule the wax for just before or during your period, your sensitivity will be way up. Some people take painkillers before but I never do and it's fine.

Regrowth really depends on each person, it doesn't itch like it would if you'd shaved. Most people would need to repeat every 4-6 weeks...over time it does grow back more slowly and finer but that's over a period of years.

I've no connection to Waxperts other than as a regular client. I've used other salons and waxes in the past but now wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. It's great to see them selling their wax to other salons so that people outside of Dublin can now benefit.

Don't worry about being embarrassed, these people do many bikini waxes a day every day of the week. A good therapist will help you relax by chatting away and of course by answering any questions. I've been waxing for years and take no notice any more, I do have to warn you it's addictive though. My appointments for the next six months are already booked!

    Hi OP,

I have moved your thread to Beauty as it is more appropriate for your query :)

I'm a big fan of lycon wax as I personally think its less painful than others. Brazilia use it and I never go anywhere else for bikini waxing.

Keep in mind that it usually takes around three waxes to get a proper clean wax if you've never waxed before so don't judge it based on your first one- some hairs may break or be too short to wax and it might not give as smooth a result as you want but by the third one you should be smooth. Also you may be red for a day or so after and it won't be pretty! :)

I don't use any pain killers beforehand, I honestly don't think its that bad.

The more you wax the longer you can get out of a wax so the first few times you may need a wax after two or three weeks but then after a few more you may get up to six weeks, I'm dreadful waiting though so rarely leave it that long, although you do need the hair a certain length to get a good wax.

The previous poster gave you good advice too so hope we covered it all!

I had my first bikini wax about 3 weeks ago in Brazilia! Was nervous but it was fine I got legs and bikini done and found the leg more painful than bikini - neither hurt very much at all, just to reassure. I was just expecting something awful and was really surprised. I'm a total convert now and sorry I didn't get it done sooner.

Heya just a word of warning, if you have had excema as a child or recently its reccommended you dont wax as it can open up the skin to infections. I learnt this the hard way, I have spent 100s on doctors and medications and still left with scarring and pain in my legs, so if you are vunerable i wouldnt do it thats on the advice of a specialist dermatologist.

    Hey,

Does anyone know how different a g-string wax is from a Brazilian?
And do you wear a paper thong when getting it done?

A g-string is a very tight bikini wax with 2-3 fingers worth of hair left, hair from the bum is removed too, or partially removed. The dedicated waxing salons ask for your underwear to be removed for this type of wax usually.

Well I got the Californian because they make you put legs behind your head for the gstring haha! Legs were way sorer than bikini though.. so worth it :)

They are ok pain wise esp. If the place uses lycon, waxperts, or harley hot wax. I just find it embarrassing really lying there with no underwear on and legs open!! I personally would never go if I had my period but that's just me.

Have you had your eyebrows or anything else waxed before? That will give you a tiny glimpse at what it will be like. If you haven't it's a very different feeling from anything you'll experience. My suggestion is really doing your research on a good waxer...find one that really knows what they are doing but also read reviews to see if they are nice, take their time, and walk you through it since you are a first timer. I've gone to some that are awful but I had a discount..luckily I get it done often so I knew what was coming. I'm very good with pain and for some reason waxing really doesn't bother me, but there are some tips to lessen pain: take an advil before you go to lessen the pain and try not to schedule in right before your period. Your body is extra sensitive right before and it will make the process feel 10x worse. If you are strictly getting a bikini, they should provide a paper/gauze thong for you to wear. Make sure you're hair isn't long, about less than a half an inch and if they feel it's still a bit too long, they will trim it before...it's better to be a little longer that shorter to make sure the wax gets all the hairs. How long it lasts reallyyy depends on your body...it says it should last 4-6 weeks but some hair grows a lot slower or a lot faster so you after the first few times you'll get a hang of how often you should go.

    Hope that helps!

It's so important to go to a salon with good reviews like Brazilia or Urban Wax
I usually go to Brazilia but just went to a different place and the wax was so hot it nearly burned me and I asked for a Californian and they gave me a Brazilian, horrible experience!
