Which one costs you more? The cost of my insurance came down below my motor tax last year and wondering is this the norm for most? It never really occurred to me before.

    Tax 710
Insurance 470 (510 incl interest on paying it monthly).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,212 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Tax for sure... €422 every 3 months/€1688 per year. Insurance is about €600 for the year.

More annoying is the brochure I got in the post today inviting me to test drive the new A8. Tax on that is only €380 despite being the same engine size (3.0 TDI Quattro) as my older A6 and more powerful (260 v 225 BHP)

Ah well.. still brings a smile to my face every time I drive it :)

Tax (just paid, so it still hurts) was €514
    Insurance was €390

As the roads here are falling apart with potholes, I resent every cent of that tax!

Tax is €404 over 4 payments

    So it's close.

The car is only worth €300 :D

    Tax €1080
    Insurance €400ish.

    Stupid tax.

 That's phenomenal. What sort of car do you drive to pay that much Tax ? if you don't mind me asking. That's a hell of a lot.

What are you driving? Seriously, if you can....sell it! My insurance costs the same as you for a 1.6 engine, but your tax is over double........by any chance, are you batman?

If you put in for the test and sit it, you will get a two year licence even if you fail it, better than having to renew your licence every year ;)

Beara Island has a very fair road tax structure.

All that apparent in this thread is that people with average cars don't realise how much those of us who like cars are punished for liking certain cars.

    1501cc - 1600cc €514 Vs 3001cc > €1809

    How is that fair!

710 Tax, think my insurance was 360.
Tax on the other car is 385 and my insurance was about 300.

So Tax is way worse then insurance for me.

My case in point, I dont have a Jaguar XJ sitting outside because Id have to pay €504 a quarter for a piece of paper. Its frustrating to have to pay that much to be able to use something you own.

Slightly off topic but its like people paying the property tax for houses they own,a bloody stealth tax, back to the topic itself, its a joke i agree but enda, big phil and the rest of the boyo's are only laughing at us while they clean up,we got away with increases in budget 2014 expect them to return in 2015

They're both around the same for me, some €350 each.
I think the insurance was slightly less than the tax last time round
