If people don't park illegally there would be no parking offences.

I think it's more to do with people seeing the clampers jump out the bushes 1 second after the time runs out on the card and not being able to purchase more time.

Parked where you shouldn't be? Blocking people from going about their business? Well, we'll clamp ye, so you'll now be there longer! Gotta love the mentality of it all!

I wonder how many of those at Pearse St were Gardais personal cars?

"Made" money? Is that the kind of "made" money that's immediately p1ssed up against the wall or the "made" money that goes towards a pension deficit?

You know, when I "make" money it's generally after all the bills are paid.

Speaking as a representative of the non dickhead sector who doesn't park where they shouldn't... Fucking good.

As I've said before, if I was inventing a devious plan to fleece millions from unsuspecting citizens, I probably wouldn't devise a system you can easily avoid by reading signs, using car parks or public transport.

Or then again, perhaps I would.

Needing to use disc parking on a Saturday in Cork is a joke. The place is deserted in estates yet on the unfortunate chance a warden shows it will cost you €40. Id agree with it on weekdays from 10-3 but 9-4.30 is taking the piss. It costs too much to go about you business especially when the council expect you to move your car every two hours as you cant use 2 discs at the same time. Meh I know the wardens routine around the place I park. He never comes on a Saturday, or after 1pm...

Know a few lads with disabled permits to get around it. Nothing funnier than a boyracer with L plates up and a disability permit.

Council are a bunch of pricks. €2 an per disc just drives business out to the suburbs.

Tbh you may as well park on double yellows out of sight if you have no discs.

Maybe they give out permits for mental disability?

Im sure the people with genuine disability cards appreciate being compared to that.

I think the general idea is that you won't do it the next time. Which is a fair judgement and a reasonable mentality.

In fairness, the article said that most of the money was made through parking charges (discs, multistory etc), and only a small fraction through clamping.

As much as an entire local authority would appreciate being called pricks for enforcing parking laws, no doubt

Ummm, good stuff, great way to earn revenue. They brought in parking charges in our local one-horse town. Great idea, did away with the bedlam and bad parking that was rampant. Mainly as no-one bothers going anymore and it's dying on its 4rse. Why pay to park to visit small shops when the out-of-towners give free parking..did they do a comparison on the "revenue earned" compared to revenue lost through rates dropping off a cliff? Doubtful.

Indeed. I avoid the city centre. It's Blanch or Swords all the way for me.

Maybe it's just but I've never seen anyone done there, would be hard to do one but not all surely? On down Pearse St. outside the Science Gallery I've seen plenty of arguments about clamps and the like. One guy just threw his keys at the warden and flagged down a taxi. :pac:

If possible, maybe you should walk/use public transport. Not a 'solution' but in general there are tons of people who use their car for everything when most times they could leave it behind and save the hassle. Not attacking you btw.

I've no problem calling the councils pricks. They are over zealous and greedy when it comes to Saturday parking and not ending the disc requirement until 4.30. They feel how they like.

Agree. Why bother when you can go to one of the many shopping centres around the country worry free and have the local area welcome your custom rather than extract revenue. Some sort of policing is needed but €40 now compared to €18 during the boom, they are taking the piss when it comes to fines.

I park legally. I can see the point but they are over zealous with one or two aspects. Streets would be crazy without some regulation but IMO €40 is too much for a fine for parking. Saturday disc parking is revenue generating rather than ensuring there are spaces and 4.30 is too late. And I've never got a ticket so I am not talking out of spite.
