Interesting how they changed the last two S's in 'Guinness' into the German character ß

When travelling through SE Asia, saw a few very old Guinness signs with Chinese characters. Apparently a lot of the locals in the Chinatown areas liked it for medicinal properties...Guinness is good for you!

Lots of Germans like Guinness. Yes, it's funny how they used the German "sz" i.e. ß

I think they used use that character for nouns and proper names containing a double 'S' once, but was dropped a number of years ago.

Yes, we called it "scharfes S" or "esszett" i.e. "sz".
