It's not an XBox One or a PS4. A Chip is not Potatoes Dauphinoise, but try dipping them in some ketchup. It's been hailed as THE single player console to own this year. If you believe there's more to life than a new Fifa iteration or Call of Battlemedals, if you have been barred from the zoo for jumping on the turtle's back, if you still believe in fun you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

is that not a bit hypocritical considering how the Mario franchise has been done to death?

Careful now.... BA is a haven from discussions about the relative merits of different consoles/franchises etc... ;)

Good price... good bargain... end of story...

But yes... almost certainly. Not that I'd be encouraging anyone to comment on such things in BA :pac:

Roughly the same price in argos

But it's out of stock everywhere :(

Yes, yes it is. But the great thing about sitting in a glass house is that you can only really see other people's glass houses.

There is another side to that comment though, in that most of the big-name cross-platform franchises like FIFA and Battlefield will not be making it to Wii U, I'm just dressing it up as a selling point :D

Apparently Argos are reducing their price too

+1 Super Mario 3D World is fantastic.

    Soo tempted...

Its not like I can hide it in the TV cabinet, pretty sure the GF would notice the large tablet looking yoke sitting on the coffee table!

Honestly, it's incredible value. Whatever about the discussion about the Wii U's future, there is already enough games out and coming in the next few months to justify it. There won't be a game out anytime in the near future for either Xbox One or PS4 that's as good as Super Mario 3D World. It's sad to see such price drops for the machine but it was expected.

    Her Laptop,
    Her Phone,
    The house tablet,
    Pc Under the other TV

My God.... I've wanted a WiiU for so long now and I think this is my chance...
So many good games on it that I think it might just be worth it.

I've had every nintendo console since the good old nes but I got the wii and played it about 4 times because I just haven't the time. I can't justify it with the kiddies because the're too small 2 and 5.

hmm maybe... is there any way I could justify getting one for 2 and 5 year old girls? would it be good for them? aw jesus this forum is killing me.

2 is probably a bit young, although drawing pictures on the tablet is probably up her alley

5 year old would love playing Mario with you I'd say, its very forgiving with lives etc (dont think there is a game over screen, you just keep getting more lives) and once one of you stays alive the other will respawn

I (She) decided that we (I) wont be getting one :(

    Really good price.

I've had my Wii U since just after launch & have built up a decent collection of games at this stage. Mario 3D World is seriously one of the best games I've ever played.

Seems to be some good games coming out this year too i.e Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros

    I have a 2 1/2 and nearly-5 year old.
I wouldn't trust either of them with the GamePad. Not for a second.

I have played Mario with both of them. They enjoyed it. *they* enjoyed it :)

the 2 1/2 year old just waved the wiiMote around like a demented harry potter shouting "I ams mudgeroom!" while the elder had a go but got very upset when she wasn't Peach, couldn't climb a tree, when Mammy couldn't get her on the tree, when anyone else took a Cat bell, when she went in a bubble because I didn't wait for her, when the rest of us went into bubbles because she didn't wait for us, when she ran off a ledge, when she jumped off a ledge, when she jumped but couldn't quite make it on to a ledge (but didn't fall off anything), when she didn't get to jump onto the pole, when I threw her sister on to the pole while shouting follow us and we both finished but she didn't etc etc.

    It's exhausting.

In the middle of all this I noticed that the pair of them were rapidly depleting my cache of lives. So they now have their own save slot.

You know what? Get them some Lego!

(But get yourself the Wii U. If TV time gets in the way of your console gaming, sit down while I rhapsodize about Off-TV / On-Toilet play!)

Any body suggest where I could find cheap games for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Online is your best bet. Amazon, WowHD.ie, Base.com, ShopTo.net, Also with the current sale check Tesco (especially if you're in Wexford). The eShop is normally terrible for ripping you off but they have decent occasional deals on 3rd party games like ACIII, Rayman, ZombiU - basically anything Ubisoft.

The cheap games you'll get are

    Get them now
New Super Mario Bros U - Normally not cheap but Tesco had it for €5!
    Rayman Legends - £14-20
    ZombiU - £11-15
    Deus Ex - £14-22
Trine 2 - think it's 8 quid or 12 quid when on special on the eShop?

    Worth a look
    Assassin's Creed 3 - typically between £10 and £15
    Darksiders II - Usually £12-15
Nintendoland - varies greatly, another Tesco €5 special, usually £15ish online
Need For Speed Most Wanted - Can be had for around £15 if you're patient and lucky
Call of Duty Black Ops 2 - £15 once in a while. €30 in HMV. I hated it but it's apparently a decent port if you like that sort of thing
Splinter Cell - £15ish online, was in the 2 for 30 in Gamestop recently
Resident Evil Revelations - £15ish online, was in the 2 for 30 in Gamestop recently and on special on the eShop

    Wouldn't bother, myself
    Avengers - £10-15
    007 - £11-15
and a whole bunch of no-name sports/minigame compendiums

Pikmin 3, New Super Luigi Bros and Wonderful 101 seem to be faltering in price, they're all worth picking up.
