Used Car - Kia Ceed Vs Prius Vs Hyundai i30

I'm trying to decide between these three cars and would appreciate any suggestions / feedback or alternative cars. Budget is about 13-14K

The following are the factors I consider important.
    • Has got to be an automatic, this is 100% required.
    • Reliability
    • Fuel Efficiency
    • Low motor tax
    • Ideally 2010 +
    • Low road noise
    • Good amount of space inside
    • Ideally a good level of trim / gadgets

There are a few auto 2010 1.6 diesel Ceeds around that look good but are roughly the same price as a 2009 Prius. The motor tax is higher on the ceed and it costs about 10 - 15 euro more to fill the tank while achieving roughly the same mileage as the smaller tanked Prius. However, the Ceed has that 7 yr / 150,000 km warranty which is good and I'd have a few years of that left.

The i30 is apparently pretty much the same as the Ceed but with different styling? It appears to cost a little more and only have a 5 yr warranty though.

I've read a LOT about people hating on Prius' due to them being boring to drive or whatever, that doesn't bother me, I like the reliability aspect but I don't want to over pay just because of any eco-credentials it might claim to have.

I'm looking for a reliable, relatively new, well-built automatic car that doesn't cost loads to tax and insure.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone thinks I'm missing an option.

UPDATE: What I've read people are getting from a full tank in the diesel Ceed is roughly 800km real world usage. The Prius seems to manage the same (normal driving, not hypermiling etc.). Anyone confirm or contradict these figures?

I wouldn't buy into the dream that the Prius will return massive mpg or do big miles per tank.
Of course there are ways to achieve this, but who can be bothered.
Granted the autobox in the Kiaundai would sap some mpgs too.

On the other hand, if you look at it as a low tax car with lots of gadgets that won't go wrong its hard to look past the Prius.

I like the ceed/i30 but the Prius is a great car too.

Depends on what type of driving you're doing, if its mainly motorway at constant speed then the diesels will probably be a bit more economical than the Prius, if its a lot of city/suburban or hilly roads then the Prius will be more economical. I've got a Prius that averaged 53MPG over the last year of suburban short trips, I doubt very much any diesel car will manage that. Its also good/easy/harmless to drive, the vast majority of people don't want "excitement" in the daily driving. Its bigger than the other 2 also, unless you get an estate version of them.

The Prius will also be more reliable but you'll be out of warranty quicker than the Kia or Hyundai.
