Very good question! I have 'permission' shoot on commonage myself, based on two farmers telling me to work away and if anyone asks to just say they gave me permission, doesn't exactly inspire confidence hence I have never actually shot there. Quite annoying though as it is loaded with deer.

I have a share in some commonage in North Mayo. There are a dozen shares in it but only 2 or 3 lads are grazing it. Trying to sort out the SFP on it and who has rights to what(some turbury rights too) is a bit of a nightmare since technicaly every share has a say. Ideally you'll need everyones permission but in many cases that is impossible with some owners living abroad, dead etc. Your best bet is to find out who is still living and farming in the area and get permission from those folks. Its a pain in the ar%e I know and really only worth if the land offers particularly good sport, but as the saying goes, better safe than sorry.

Great question. My uncle has two shares out of 7 on 1500 acres. I use it for keeping the dog fit in the summer time, good too for looking at young deer jumping around in the sun. One share probable wouldnt be enought to have permission but on the other hand one share holder couldnt really stop u!?
