Implant bone graft and colour question

Implant bone graft and colour question
OK I had two baby teeth that I should have and dealt with a lot sooner, I’m 40. Summer 2012 I got braces to widen my bite and bring the adult teeth down, it worked a charm on one of them, it seemed mobile as it had broken through the gum. The other one has not moved and after a CT scan of the tooth I’m told it can’t be save it “enclosed” or “ancloded “ not sure which is the correct term, there is also some re-adsorption of the tooth. So now I need an implant. All is not lost I needed the brace to widen my bite to make space for the adult tooth or implant and it was 50% successful after all.

Thing is I’m told that for the implant I need to have the fused adult tooth removed (ct scan shows this) and I’ll probably need a bone graft. I really don’t like the idea of a “bovine bone” in my jaw or any other bone for that matter. Is it always needed?

I had a molar crowned, I’m not impressed with the colour match but it’s second from the back the back so only I know or care! With a canine it will be visible, will the implant be a good colour match and if tea coffee or just life stain my teeth how will the implant look, do they age with you or in 10 years will it stand out.

Speaking of years how long do they last above and below the gum, do they ever needed to be redone below the gum?

Looking forward to all this being finished.

If somebody good does to job the colour match will be almost perfect, tea and coffee put surface stain on implant like on teeth, a good cleaning every 6 months sorts that out. The implant below the gum in the bone "can" last your whole life if done well, with your good healing and good maintenance care. Above the gum its the same as any crown and the usual lifespan is 15-25 years. If all depends on who does it. Your orthodontist will recommend somebody good.

Don't worry about the bone graft, thousands done each year with bovine bone. It eventually completely changes into your own bone. In simple terms the implant is like a screw so sufficient quality and quantity of bone are needed to get a good result.

Currently color matching techniques gives a very good degree of aesthetics and with the newer materials available you should get an excellent result, dont worry about the 'bovine' all it means is the source is bovine, all organic matter is removed , you are only getting the mineral part of the bone which is nearly the same across species, be thankful that nobody is considering a graft taken from your hip or shin :) ( this was the practice some years ago until the current bone graft materials evolved)
