they mention in the article that there's zero re-sale value - wouldn't it be possible to get a display case back to remove the engraving?

A very sad case, thanks for posting.
It struck a chord with me as one of my prized watches is one my dad left me.

It is possible to get replacement cases for these omegas but I doubt your average thief would know how to do that.
Hopefully the media attention will help get the watches back.

Hi...it was my brother- in- law's watches. Thanks for putting up the post ..we all really appreciate it. The idea is that if we spread the word enough through the news/ social media they might drop them off somewhere and let us know. Its an off chance ...better than doing nothing.

@jpekav - you're very welcome. It's a small thing to do - and it might help a little. My thoughts are with you and your family.

@sawdoubters - the lady (family member) who was on Ray D'arcy this a.m. mentioned the safe. I understood that several other items were stolen - it did seem to be a 'standard' burglary' where (pretty much) everything except the watches is replaceable.

I purposely didn't mention the 'replacement display back' - just in case the wrong person saw it here.....

I doubt there is space for the engraving on the caseback, maybe it is on the bracelet clasp???

Insensitive post(and replies to it) removed

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

@OralSurgeon - loads of room on the case back. Google 'Watch engraving' and have a look at the images.

Most of it is taken up with the sea master emblem, maybe around the edge of the caseback.... Anyway...
