Joint vs Single vs Separate Assessment

I think this is a simple enough question but when I read the information I question my thinking. Wife was speaking to someone over the weekend who would have earnings similar to below and they claim they were able to make a refund claim. I'd question if that is correct.
    I earn €50k, wife earns €90k.
What is the best assessment methodology for us. Were currently on Joint with a 50/50 split of tax credit.

Joint with a 50/50 split of tax credit is fine

If one of the couple is earning less than 32.8k then a revision of credits / band would be benefitial
