Having applied for a job, what do people think is a reasonable time to leave before contacting a company to follow up. Is two weeks acceptable?

    Bump.

I'd be quite interested in opinions on this also. Where no timeline has been offered, what do others do?

If you are suitable for the role and if you have hard enough to find skills, you will be called within days. So if it has been over 2 weeks and no reply, you probably havent been shortlisted

I called 3 days later. I was shortlisted, but they had only called once and didnt leave a voicemail. I missed the interview.

Did you apply through agency or direct to the employer?
It might have been the case then, that they had an interview deadline amd max number of people that they can bring in. They called, you missed the call, they called someone else and there were no more places left.

No it was direct with the company. They were just useless.

good point about agency though, as if it was an agency there is a fair chance the job does not exist at all. Agencies sometimes post fake jobs to build up banks of potential candidates for popular job roles. Ready for a client before the job is announced.

That's true yes, I work in recruitment myself, but not all agencies though. You wouldnt believe how many applications per job we get. About 90% of people not suitable. Like I get retail sales assistants applying for an IT sales manager. They will send in their cv every day for about 2 weeks ignoring my emails saying that they are not suitable. They will call 10 min after sending their cv and asking for feedback or will keep asking to meet with me even I have clearly stated that i dont do retail recruitment
