Personally I don't know if this is a good idea but I'd be very interested to see how Dublin and London would solve this.
I imagine a lot of anti-Irish sentiment in many parts of NI would get worse in this case as the image of Dublin "sticking their nose in" would rattle some cages.
I think Gilmore would be the wrong person to send in for these matters.
Do you all think this is a good or bad idea?

When I see riots, flag protests etc... going on in NI, it feels like the place is on the opposite side of the globe. Funny how it's only a few miles up the road.

Ireland and the UK have a responsibility to sort things out when NI leaders start throwing tantrums over a fúcking flag or whatever. Not because either government actually want anything to do with the backwards hellhole, but because they're in close proximity to it and have to be seen to keeping their region in check.

If NI was a little island unto itself floating in the arctic circle, nobody would give a rats. When they get their sh1t together and start behaving like a state, then we can focus on the future.

So yeah. Dublin and London should get involved if only to push things forward.

So its pretty much both Ireland and G.Britain saying ok we might disagree but these guys are fvcking mental.

I hope the GB govt can rein them in, just grab the steering wheel and tell them to gtfo and walk.

Unionists should admit to their situation, ...there would be more dignity in it.

I imagine the DUP and Unionists will not go anywhere if they know Dublin is involved.
It would be a slap to their face I would imagine so it's hard to say if putting Dublin into the mix may make things worse? Thinking aloud here

Stalin, Churchill & Truman wouldn't be able to sort that mess of place out.

Yeah but they sorted the Nazi's out. So they must be useful at some things.

Ghandi was good at peace but India still turned into a violent hellhole.

Plus Churchill wasn't that good at war in Ireland. The RA gave them a lesson in urban warfare

It's an interesting prospect, however I fail to find any such readings on British websites apart from the Belfast Telegraph.
Most of the comments do seem to show a willingness to let London and Dublin sort it out.

Let's get something straight here folks - it's the UUP and DUP who scuppered the chance of an agreement (yeah what's new?). The suggestion that the two governments will come together to sort something out is basically a threat that those who refuse to do a deal will be side-lined.

    +1 :)
The DUP are extremely angry at this proposal from Dublin, but I mean, if they can't sort out their own bloody mess then what other choice do the governments have.
Would this be a situation where both governments will overrule the parties and decide themselves?

An impasse over flags. I can't get my head around it.

I'm not entirely sure tbh but you can be confident that objectionist Unionists will be horrified at the idea of an Anglo-Irish imposition of anything so might suddenly become more agreeable.

SDLP, SF and Alliance have accepted the proposals drafted by the neutral Haas. Now, will the spin merchants(meeja) please focus on those(UUP, DUP) who will not compromise and still are dictated by extremist views?
