My daughter is 13 and has been on the waiting list for braces with the Hse for nearly a year now, she has a gap in her front two teeth , crowding and overbite in the last few months she has got bad jaw pain and sore gums and she complains and often cries with pain she told me that since her wisdom teeth started coming down that food get caught in them and she ends up biting the inside of her cheek because her wisdom teeth are also not in the correct place I want to know if my daughter can be called quicker I would go private but I honestly do NOT have the money it breaks my heart seeing her in pain if I go back to the orthodontist and tell them that I'm in pain will they help me quicker ? Should I ring them ? Help please

    Speaking generally,

wisdom teeth don't cause problems in 13 year olds

having crowded teeth doesn't cause pain and therefore braces doesn't cure it

best to see your general dentist regarding other causes of pain and go from there....

We'll unfortunately my daughters wisdom teeth have and it's her jaw and gums that are giving her pain not what you have listed

Yes, you should ring them and inform them of the issues your daughter has with her wisdom teeth.

If the poster's username is Oral Surgeon, it may be an indication that they know with they're talking about in this instance. I'd imagine the site might have clamped down otherwise...

I'd suggest all the same that dental pain would be better and more effectively addressed by a dentist in the real world, rather than a bunch of anonymous posters in the virtual one.

Sure it's not her 2nd Molars??

Seems pretty extreme if it's actually Wisdom Teeth.

And if it is, braces won't help.

They are her wisdom teeth as they are to far back to be her 2nd molars she also gets pain on her gums behind her to front teeth also as that's where her two bottom front teeth are and they are rubbing up against the gum making it red and raw and often very painful

Second molars typically come in at 11-13 and come in at the very back.

Typically wisdom teeth start coming in, at earliest, at 16. 17 is considered the average.

Having more than one coming in four years before the average age would be pretty darn rare.

Which is why "oral surgeon" second guessed your home diagnosis.

Seriously though, go see a dentist.

ah all that pain will be good prep for when the braces are fitted, the pain won't go away! I was assessed as a priority 1 case when I was 16, and got my braces fitted when I was in college (granted I have them off 4 years now so waiting times may have improved). If you can afford at all to go private, do try.

    Priority 1 case?

you're graded by priority (at least you were in my day) priority one is the most severe, where the damage is more than just cosmetic ie there were a lot of kids behind me on the list with massive overbites etc with lower rankings than me. To look at me you'd have said I had perfect teeth but all my problems were below the gum line, I had to have an oral surgery, along with 4 years of orthodontics.

If your child is in pain she needs treatment other than braces, Oral Surgeons advice is solid. 13 year olds simply dont have wisdom tooth problems is another tooth, wisdom teeth appear in the mouth at 18 years at the earliest.

Take her to your local dentist, most take medical cards if you have one.

    Not for a 13 year-old I'm afraid.

Oook. Firstly I can gaurantee your daughter is DEFINATELY NOT getting her wisdom teeth. She is 13 its her 2nd molars that are coming through. She will not get her wisdom teeth untill she is at least 18.
Secondly, if she is having pain/bleeding from her gums, she more than likely isnt brushing properly. This isnt her fault if her teeth are very overcrowded. She just need to spend more time to remove all the plaque.
With regards to hse waiting list. The average wait is 2.5 years. It woulf be worth your while to go private even for a consult to see the cost involved. Usually orthodontists due payment plans ie a small payment everytime you see them. Its usually every 6-8 weeks.
I will give you a word of warning that time is of the essence when it comes to certain aspects of orthodontic treatment so I would urge you to make an appointment seen privatelyfor a consult at least.

Mine started at 15 and all but one were fully through by 18. Granted, even in my own family, this was unusual.

wisdom teeth dont come out into the mouth at age 13 for sure, very likely it is the 2nd molars coming up behind the first adult molar, ( there could be an exception to every rule ) ideally you need to see a dentist who can take a look. the gentleman with user name oral surgeon is telling you the right info. But through an online forum , other than general advice and tips , clinically relevant advice cannot be imparted. crowded teeth per se cant cause pain, but when a new tooth erupts the gum on top of it is raised up and get bitten on which then get inflammed, this is very likely what is happening, this can be easily treated if this is the case and is very unlikely braces will cure what you are describing
