Hi there. We all know how reliable the tddi mondeo was but what year did the tdci mondeo start getting reliable if at all. The reason I ask is that a mate wants to buy one but a little up in the years. Cheers

What year is he looking at? Which generation of Mondeo? Which TDCi engine as there were a few different ones. 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.2?

Currently driving a 12 reg fleet 1.6 tdci mondeo and i have to say i moves pretty well. I owned an older 1.8 before this but the 1.6 feels nipper. Before that an older 530d but honestly the 1.6 is a fine car to drive. Still amazes me with the power delivery from such a small engine. Returning currently about 1100km to a tank of 85odd euro.
I worked out on gentle cruise at 110 kph it returns 56 mpg but hammer it closer to 140 and city driving it never returned less than 49 mpg ...amazing

Thinking of replacing the family car with an 11 reg 1.6 but I hear the 1.6 requires accurate service history or avoid. Is this true of the 1.6 more than the 1.8 or 2.0l and why?

    I've a 09 1.8 Econetic with 260,000km and can't fault it.

I had to do the dual mass flywheel and clutch at 240k and that's it outside routine maintenance.

Servicing and running costs are cheap. On a cruise at 120km/h it'll do 55-57mpg. Don't think I've seen under 50mpg, but I don't do much town driving. The only thing that I dislike is that mine is only a 5 speed gearbox.

    Good mpg.
my old 08 1.8 non eco returned 51mpg one week but drove like a granny for a week at 100 kph. At 120 kph economy was 46 mpg.
