I was made redundant in an October, and got a job the following June.

It really depends on lots and lots of factors.

Sorry to hear you lost your job you seem to be eager to get another so I doubt it will take you too long.

18 months but then I was in the same job for over 40 years after that. Good luck and keep your spirits up.

I am self employed so it took no time at all.

Lost my Job in April last year. Still looking. That said, it does depend on a lot of factors. Currently, I am getting fed up, and am getting more and more of the opinion that I really don't want to return to the rat race. I am in the process of setting up my own business. It is certainly more nerve racking that starting a new job, but in the long term, I think it will work out.

Don't narrow it down, use whatever courses are offered to you and don't undervalue the life/work skills you have. A willingness to learn and reinvent yourself will help but it is very hard in the early stages of unemployment. After 25 years in Hospitality I lost my job. I am now working in IT via a placement where an employer didn't take advantage me being cheap labour. It took me the best part of 2 years but you may be lucky and find something sooner. Best of luck!

Got my first job 2 weeks before my last college exams in 2011 (Had a choice), got bored during the summer and changed jobs; first place I put in my CV took me; get phonecalls from Linkedin 2-3 times a month to know if I've any interest in changing jobs again. Luckily my degree is very much in demand and I've worked to better myself and get extra qualifications as well.

Best of Luck OP; put effort into the CV as most jobs are flooded these days so you have to stand out and as above some networking on LinkedIn is very valuable these days; it's one of the first things employers look at these days; your online profile may not get you a job but can certainly cost you one

I've been trying 7 months now.
tbh might as well just give up. This place is a hopeless cesspit with no opportunity.

Had a job for a year after college and it was ****e with crap pay and shift work and then left it. Unemployed for six months then as was looking for a good job with a good company and didn't want to apply for jobs I wouldn't like then. With one of the top companies in Ireland now over a year and love it there.

Don't rush into any old job. What I studied in college is booming now though. I.T

Made redundant 20th December 2011 started new (and much better) job on 23rd Jan 2012. Been there ever since and love it. Being made redundant was the best thing ever happened to me! Sometimes you can just be lucky!

took me 4 months back in 2010, i took a part time job which led to full time after 3 months. Still here now.
When i started, i was shocked to find out only 5 people applied for it!
Most people seem to overlook part time work, but it can & often does lead to a full time job.

Was unemployed for four months after I walked out of my last job. Spent two of those months depessed as fcuk, not well enough mentally to look for a job. Then started applying and got one within two months. There a year next month. II've progressed, been promoted and am quite happy because I'm essentially left to my own devices once I'm making sales. :)

I was let go from my Job in September 2010 after 18 years working for the same building company! Don't know what it is but haven't managed to gain employment yet! Went to college for two years in an effort to gain new skills in the hope of gaining employment! To date I haven't even had one interview since I left college last year. I have applied for hundreds of jobs through out the years, I,ve done probably 50 different courses since I was made unemployed. Can't even seem to get voluntary work! How bad are things when you cant even get a job working for free!...

9 months was the longest, 2 hours was the shortest. Both times I was offered jobs by someone I knew without approaching them. In fact now I think of it, I've never gotten a job that I had a "proper" interview for.

Hi, my husband list his job in sept. His still looking, been on a few interviews, unfortunately no job offers. His totally and utterly depressed, had been with the company for over ten years. It's hard trying to support a family on the social welfare benefits we get, never mind the mortgage bills etc. keep hoping something will turn up soon. Last time this happened he was made redundant on the Friday and walked into a Job on Monday morning. No such luck this time I'm afraid.
