    Hi

Has anyone used Hi Line motors in Santry beside Kart city?
They have some stock that I'd be interested in so I googled the company. Only established in 2011, no other details I could find and not mentioned here before.
Has anyone had any experience with this dealership, any info appreciated.

    Thanks.

Think they might have been called Carland before.

Thanks for that, a search for Carland lead me to this info.

carland are not japcars..... japcars have moved to the lane that leads to kart city...they are now called hiline motors

    Enough said.

I bought a car from them in 2012, it was sold to me as a one owner car, when i got the VLC, it had 6 previous owners listed! As it turns out, it has been the most reliable car i have ever owned. Done 80K kms since getting it without missing a beat, only money spent was for regular servicing & tyres.
I would buy from them again if they had what i was after, but would treat it like a private sale.

Thanks for the feedback. I have my eye on something from a different dealer so it looks like I won't be using them.

Putting aside the reliable motor you got , you'd actually buy another motor from them after being missold a car?

Fool me once comes to mind..

As someone who would only buy a petrol automatic, (a dying breed of car in this country, going they way of the dodo) yes i would go back if they had what i was looking for. As stated already, i would treat it like buying a car privately.
A 100% honest used car dealer is a rare beast anyway.

You can't put that aside. That's the very reason he'd go back.

Personally I wouldn't trust anyone I am buying a car from dealer or private. If you look enough on the net nearly every dealer will have had some issues and will have pissed someone off enough that they end up on a forum. Its hard to know who to trust so I don't trust anyone.

Hi line seem to do mostly ex UK fleet imports now. I have had a look around their yards its very close to work. They seem a mixed bag. Some nice cars some not so nice. Most of the ones I looked at did have FSH which is at least reassuring. If you want to buy from them do your homework, check the car over fully, do a UK HPI or Cartell report, test drive, confirm the FSH with the relevant garage and confirm the mileage too and don't pay the balance until its VRTed and NCTed.

I am not 100% sure if they are Japcars to be honest. It can be hard to tell. There are so many car places out near the airport and they seem to have salesmen moving between them all the time. They seem ok in there on the surface anyway. Just be prudent and give everything s good once over.

Agree with that. I doubt there is anyone out there 100% honest in the car trade, or any trade where money is on the line. It just human nature.

Cheers Tin79, all solid and good points there.

I've seen a car there that I like and am thinking of taking a trip up there this weekend to view it. Regardless of where I buy the car I intend to get a full pre-car inspection by the AA or an equivalent company beforehand, so is there's anything dodgy it should show up during the inspection. Like you, rightly or wrongly, i air on the side of distrust when buying a car so will be checking everything out thoroughly.

Even though the car could check out to be ok, it's the after service that could be important, you just don't want the hassle of a dealer not standing over a warranty they offer.

Went up to look at a 2011 Passat recently in Hi Line motors. The bodywork was rough after being promised that morning on the phone that there wasn't a scratch on it (scuffs on every corner of car). I specifically asked was there any marks/ scrapes on it as i was going to be travelling 90mins to view.

They weren't too impressed when i pointed this out and just walked away (after saying that they could fix for me 'at a price'). No multifunction steering wheel as advertised also. Took a quick look about while i was there and noticed the rest of the cars seemed clean so maybe it was just the one i wanted was rough.

Picked up my new car (2011) in Michael Moore of Athlone this morning. Bit pricier but 10 times the car. Be very careful.

That pretty much sounds just like what I saw. Very mixed stock. Some of the cars looked spotless and some others looked rough. They seem to import en masse from the UK and a lot of that is ex fleet stock - which seemed ok. But they also sell a few rough ones and they do take trade ins for retail. So stock is very mixed. Everything from one year old imports to 12 year old Irish bangers.

I would just view every car on its own merits.

    <snip-deleted post quoted>

I was searching some jap imports and I am glad I found this tread about hilinemotors because I wanted to buy car of them
This explains why his prices are cheaper compare to some other places
I got my car from importsdirect.ie with mileage verified by Japanese paperwork
