I hope I am in the correct forum Mod feel free to move it.
Basically posting for my folks, they arecreyired but enjoy having the sky package purely forvthe golf for the Father and the rugby.
They only watch bbc or rte and dont bother with any of the other channels.
I think they are gettin a crap servicec from sky,the box was faulty since before Christmas and sky only coming to fix it next week and charging 60 euro callout.
There tv is about 2yrs old,is there a way that they could get some box to hook into their net connection and tv to stream channels and watch saorview then cancel that ripoff sky package.
Pregerably something straight forward as they are not super tech savvy.

If the TV is that new it might be Saorview compatible and will only need to be connected to a normal aerial. See here for a list of compatible TVs and other help.
A Sky box will continue to get the free to air channels such as BBC and ITV without a subscription but you will not get Saorview (Irish channels) by satellite for free. The Sky box will not record without a sub.
FreeSat boxes can connect to an existing dish and are easy to use. Some also have recording facilities.
If the Tv does not support Saorview, another option is what is know as a combo box. These combine Saorview and Free-To-Air (FTA) satellite in one box. These also offer basic recording but need occasional retuning / maintenance.
