Finglas Driving Test Speed Limits

Quick question, I've got my driving test on Friday and i've popped out to Finglas quite a few times practing, I am wondering does anyone know the speed limit for the housing estates like Willow Park etc? I am sure they're 50kmh like everywhere else, but I just want to double check that they're not 30kmh, there is not one sign located anywhere around Finglas for speed limits, so it's hard to judge!

    Thanks

    Curtis

If there no signs the limit will be 50. General rule of thumb is in a built up area with street lights it's 50.

Now that's not to say you should do 50, 40 or even 30 may be a more sensible speed depending on the road layout, parked vehicles etc etc

Yeah I am told that the max is 50kmh, but I quite doubt that it is possible to go at that speed around those housing estate.. I usually stay at 20-40kmh in those areas

Thanks guys, much appreciated, I normally stay within the 30-40 range most the time but I was just checking the max limit.

The only roads in the entire Finglas test area that are over 50 km per hour, are the N2/Derry road and, the part of Griffith Avenue Extension between Griffith Avenue proper and the Ballygall Road. All other roads in the testing area are 50 kph or lower.

As has been said there are only two 60kmh zones. Everything else has a maximum of 50. There are always signs where it changes from one zone to another. By wary that Ballymun road is only 50 as well.

    Its 30 km/hr near schools

    Its 30 km/hr near schools

Although that may often be sensible. It is not in any way official.

Thanks guys, test on Friday, lets hope it goes well. Also, my tires are visibly perfect, but if you were to check them they're a bit under legal limit ( just the smallest bit, purchasing a new car after the test so I don't see a reason changing them.. ), will they be okay for the test???

Seriously? Do you think the testers are stupid?

I never said if they were stupid or not, I just said that there was a bit of wear on the tires, although it's not a lot and just asked will it be okay or not, that was all..

If you read the leaflet you get, it says once they're visually okay, it's not like they're bold, they're only pretty new with just a bit of wear on them. I don't have a few 100 to be forking out for new tires since I already forked out for the test, few more months tax, different bits that needed to be fixed on the car, and driving lessons :-) I'm just asking for some advice that's all :-)

The tyres are always checked. You know them to be illegal. If the tester doesn't like them you won't be sitting your test.
Put the spare on and/or get part worn tyres on it for €25.

Apart from your test it's madness to be driving around in tyres with less than 3mm tread never mind less than 1.6mm

Oh my, I was using a way to measure the tires which was totally incorrect!! My wheels are nowhere near 1.6mm after all.. I was panicking enough, glad it's sorted though, going to double check in the morning when it's bright, sorry for the mis confusion. Thanks!

Remember tyres have "tread depth indicators" at various locations in the grooves around the tyres. Once the top surface of the tyre gets level with these indicators it's time to check your tyres.
If you don't know what these look like google the term and do an image search.

Didn't your ADI go through this stuff with you?

He did indeed, I decided to google for it though, and went outside with the googles answer, panicking enough as I am for the test, checked it incorrectly, then came to boards :P Apologies! My ADI would shoot me heh.

No. Griffith Avenue Extension starts at the weirdly shaped triangle junction where Ballymun Rd, Mobhi Rd and Griffith Avenue all meet up. There is a small development of shops with a post office, off license, chipper in the middle of it. It runs from east to west and ends at Ballygall Road.

If you drive south on Ballymun Rd (heading away from Ballymun and towards town) you'll come to the Griffith Avenue junction shortly after you pass Albert Park. Griffith Avenue is on your left, Griffith Avenue Extension is on your right. Griffith Avenue is not within the boundary of the Finglas test area, but Griffith Avenue Extension is. It may officially be called Griffith Avenue now, but when the new 1980's stretch of Griffith Ave was built, the new part was always referred to as "the extension" by the locals, and that is what we still refer to it as.

Sorry, I'm on my phone, so I can't do a Google Maps link.
