On the road sales job

I am thinking of going for an on the road sales job, comes with a company vehicle. I am aware of the BIK rates etc.

I was wondering, if I don't have "an office", how do the night and day allowances work?
The employers address would be the place of work I believe?
So does that mean I would be away from my place of work every day? So for an 8 hour day, I would get the 5-10 hour rate of €13.71? As I am never in the office, I'd get the day rate every single day I work (unless I'm overnighting)

I believe I will have to do a number of overnights each week, so they would be at the appropriate rate as well?

On the allowances, are they instead of claiming expenses? So an employer can choose to either let you expense everything, or give you the allowance and let you work it out for yourself?

It totally depends on the company. I'm a Sales Rep.

Worked previously with a very large company. Company vehicle was a van so no BIK. Lunch allowance was €7 per day. If overnights required (rare) we'd have to pay & then claim full amount (B&B plus 1 evening meal) with expenses at the end of the month. Got paid a salary. Office was in Dublin. Occasionally dropped in fid stationary , meetings etc.

Similar job with a small company now. Have a car buy it's commercial so again no BIK. Lunch allowance €9 per day. 4-5 overnights per month. All charged to company credit card.

Every company will be different. Good luck!

How is there no BIK do you mean low BIK due to high mileage?

I guess he means it's a car/van. No back seats or back windows.

There still may be BIK, though.

Revenue set it all out here: http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/benefit-in-kind/private-use-vans.html#section1
