I hope you guys can help on what is I think a simple VOIP problem.

    My set up is
    Samsung Galaxy loaded with
    Csipsimple (free version)
    Blueface

When I use it with 3mobile broadband ie broadband directly received by phone. I can make outgoing and incoming calls.
There is lag which I suppose is due to the distance from the mast, which I can live with.

    However
I also have broadband from 3 using their wireless wi/fi dongle - E5220 from Huaweii.
When my phone is using wi/fi from this dongle I can get great quality incoming calls.
But on making an outgoing call, I hear tone - the recipient answers and then no sound / voice on either side.

It must be a three thing because when I use the same phones within a wifi signal carrying landline broadband(eg the office), outgoing calls are fine.

I rang three and they said they dont block VOIP.

    Any suggestions gratefully accepted ???

The lag may be because of a high ping. Could you post a speedtest.net result? When you say you can make and receive calls is this using the 3 network and not using VoIP? Could you elaborate here?

Have you tried setting the codec to g.729 (less bandwidth, but less call quality)?

Wifi may add the lag making call quality very bad. For this I suggest you use g.729.

Much thanks for the response - I really appreciate your expertise.

Did a few tests on the mobile bb
    165 ping
    .50 mbps
    1.48 mbps
    108 ping
    .43 mbps
    1.51 mbps
    116 ping
    .67 mbps
    1.40 mbps

When i say "can make and receive calls" I mean VoIP for all calls made.
I can make and take VOIP calls from Three bb received directly on phone.
I can only take VOIP calls using the huaweii bb dongle I cant make them. Specifically "I hear tone - the recipient answers and then no sound / voice on either side."

If I changed the codec to g.729, is that a setting on Csipsimple or is it anew download?

Thank so much for sharing your expertise.

    I did a few tests
    165 ping

    108 ping
    .43 mbps
    1.51 mbps
    116 ping
    .67 mbps
    1.40 mbps

    All calls detailed are voip.
Again when using the mobile BB VOIP - I can make and take VOIP calls.
The issue is when using the bb from the three bb using huaweii E5220 - it gives stronger bb signal.
I can take a call, but when making a call the recipient answers and then no sound / voice on either side.

Lastly if I change the codec setting to g.729 is that within Csipsimple or is it a new download.

    Again much thanks

Could you do a speed test from the Huaweii E5220? This may be the problem

Those pings are very high. Should be lower than that, hence the lag.

You should be able to change the codec in the settings section of the Csipsimple.

Ping should be under 100ms. This is the delay and can be quite important when using VoIP.

Those upload and download speeds seem OK, though a bit hit and miss it seems. I would change the codec to g729, which is like mobile quality but uses less bandwidth. This can be done within the softphone. You should be close to the access point. Speed gets lost wirelessly and ping gets worse. The lower the ping the better.

Try setting the codec to g729 and let us know how you get on.

I would suggest to try MizuDroid instead of CSIPSimple.
It is a free softphone but build entirely differently then CSIPSimple so you might have a good chance to have to working.

    OK im in csipsimple admin

    In media, codecs

I have fast and slow settings. For each there is a list of alternatives.

Under slow the nearest codec I have is G722 16khz
Neither "fast" nor "slow" has G729

Will I try G722 - is it close enough or irelevant.

Does the alt to CsipSimple have G729.
I'd love to download and install but I fear I will trip up on the settings.

Again you are both stars and should inherit the earth - thank you

lastly the access point is never more than 10 meters away.

Not all providers support G722, I'm not sure if Blueface do.

Try using another app, if you cannot register with the server let us know. You should have a try with g722, if it doesn't work try g729 on another app.
