Just hoping for a bit of feedback guys.

I went for a lesson back in September after months of terrible golf , it was so bad i was going jack the whole thing in . Anyway the first thing the pro said to me was that my right hand grip was poor . My hand was under the shaft and my V was pointing way off right .

So was shown the right way to grip and tried to really stick with it but after 4 full months of playing most weekends and 10 or so driving range sessions it still feels very akward to me .So much so iv started to revert back to my old ways , But i can not continue to play like that and see any improvment .

So i was just wondering has anyone here had the same problems and if so how long did it take to feel normal and what sort of drills/ practice is best to get this sorted .

Have joined my local club so really hoping to kick on this year ie get to a HC of 20 or under

Grip is one of the most important things , so they say..

Try standing upright let your hands dangle by your sides .

Then bring your hands together as if your gonna clap, but with club in between them, grip it without twisting or turning your hands.

    This should feel more natural.

Just had a lesson a week ago with the same problem among other things and I find myself fairly comfortable with it at the moment. For me it was finding somewhere my right index finger was comfortable. Its still a work in progress but it definitely straightened out my good hits.

I am currently having trouble with my grip also, but to a much lesser extent.
I checked on video of my swing with the old grip, and the newer style grip, there is no visible difference in the two grips!
But the change feels enormous, and i can't believe its not obvious to anyone else.

As many others have repeated, sit with a club in your hand when your watching television, etc, just to get used to the feel. takes up to an hour a day to get used to apparently!

I've marked my gloves to where the club should rest so I'm now 100% sure my left hand grip is correct and I just need to align my right hand correctly

Most common problem in people starting out & people long time playing. Almost the 1st thing any pro will check when you get a lesson as many other faults can be traced to an incorrect grip
You can get training grips that force you to keep your hands in the correct place and help alot. Put them on an old club and hit with that or as another posted said just hold grip when watch in the TV

Just keep in mind though, there is no fundamentally correct grip. Look at any pga or European tour event and there is major differences in the worlds best and how they hold the club. That cannot be argued. But each "style" of grip brings it's own tendencies.
The pro you seen may have noticed flaws or mistakes in your shot shape/dispersion and possibly rightly corrected your grip in order to fix it.

Fwiw I think Ben Hogans description of the grip in 5 lessons is excellent the only problem I find with it is for me I fade it a little too much with his grip as he describes it so I strengthened the left hand a quarter or so that gives me with my swing a straighter to hooking flight which I prefer.
