Have you been assessed by your local council as having a housing need. If not go in tomorrow and apply you won't get rent allowance without this. Hope this helps.

You'll get a form to fill in, you'll need to get it stamped by Revenue and then bring it back with various things such as I.D. and proof of address.

Revenue do not need to stamp the application. The Local Authority does. You then need to bring this to the CWO for your RA application.

Have you looked for somewhere to live?

Ok before you start looking for somewhere to live. You need to have been assessed by housing authority. So go do that first. When/if you have been accepted then go to your cwo. You don't need to get it stamped by revenue either.

Revenue had to stamp my form for Fingal and DCC... Had to go to their office just off O'Connell St to get it done.

You're correct, revenue stamp the LA housing form to say you don't own property or some such. Its an appendix form attached to the application form.

This form is to get on the housing list/ get a needs assessment, only after you (op) have this assessment by the council do you fill in the RA form.

Also, depending on where you live it is no longer administered by cwo, its a centralised unit in most Dublin areas now and other counties too where you send the form to, not the cwo so check which applies to you when you've found a place to live.

I'm concerned if you are 37 weeks pregnant house hunting and dealing with local authorities and SW is a bit onerous.

I'm living in council house now and a year a year and a half ago I'd to get mine stamped by revenue. I'm in the Midlands. Took 2 weeks to come back but you can go to the local revenue office I just had too far to go

I'm not sure where the OP is living. But in Cork, RA applications are still dealt with by the CWO locally, and you don't have Revenue stamp the forms. You simply get the LA to do it.

Perhaps the OP had better check to see which applies to her?

You may not need revenue to stamp it in cork, but you're saying LA has to stamp it... why would any LA need to get revenue to stamp it if they could just stamp it?? Its to prove to the LA that you don't own any other property or something like that so I think people are confusing something somewhere when they say that only the LA have to stamp it, its a form to give the LA information, the stamp needed from revenue is to provide information to the LA in processing your application for housing.

We seem to be at cross-purposes here. I'm talking about the application for council housing. The forms for which you need in order to apply for RA. You have to make the application, get the LA to stamp the form, as proof you've been assessed for social housing then take it to the CWO along with your RA forms for processing.

OP - Have a look at these links: here which details how RA is decided. Here is the link showing you how to apply.

Lastly - this link shows the list of areas covered by the Central Processing Unit. If you live in one of the areas listed, then you must make your application there. Otherwise, it'll be your local Health Centre, which are also listed on the site.

    Hope this helps!

That's why I was saying there seems to be confusion among some posters- revenue usually need to stamp the LA housing application form, (as you have said they don't in cork, but saying that the LA just need to stamp it was adding to confusion in the discussion). The LA form is not the same as the rent supplement form. (Not directing this at you ABC) Once the LA form is complete and the LA has processed your application you then use another form for the rent supplement
I'm assuming people are thinking about the rent supplement form when they say the LA just stamp it (which as you say is to show you have a needs assessment done). The revenue don't stamp this form, they stamp the application for LA housing, which obviously the LA can't stamp instead of revenue because they need the proof from revenue.
