Quick question. I know that when I'm taking my dog for a walk, and she does her doggy business on the path I have to clean it up or I could be fined.

I'm just wondering, what happens if a guide dog poos? Surely their owners can't get fined, it'd be a bad joke expecting them to clean it up.

If a guid dog poos nothing happens other than poo on the ground.

    From the Act, "
    (3) Subsection (1) does not apply in respect of—

    (a) a guide dog kept and used for the guidance of a blind person,

    (b) a working dog being used—

    (i) for the herding of livestock, or

(ii) by a member of the Garda Síochána or the Customs and Excise service in connection with the official functions of the member, or

    (c) a dog in such other circumstances as may be prescribed."

So recreational dog crap is litter, but all other dog crap is fine?

For the purpose of the Act yes, same way an Act makes it a offence to hold a phone while driving except for a Garda.

Working dogs are trained better than family pets and almost never will do anything like that.

Do Gardai receive special training in how to do this safely?
