Open Driving, why are brokers afraid of it?

They have less control over who is driving the car I guess. With a named driver they can take age, experience, points, maybe even recent claims etc into account when determining a price.

Not really, no. I'm inclined to agree that from an insurers point of view open driving is more dangerous to them than named drivers.

Don't forget also that a broker is only reselling policies; they don't usually set the conditions.

I doubt they were the words a broker would use. I'd say he said they were more expensive given the increased risk to insurers, as there is an unknown aspect of who may be driving the vehicle as opposed to naming the drivers.

As djimi stated, brokers don't set the terms and conditions and will offer you the cover you ask for. However, he was probably advising that it was not the best solution for your circumstances

The insurer can't measure the risk as they don't know who in addition will be driving.

I checked that out last year with my own broker - no bother, would cost me another 25 or so, but in the end I concluded myself that it wasn't necessary.

As in allowing you to drive anyone else's car under your insurance
    Or
Allowing anybody drive your car and be under your insurance?

It's most likely because he didn't like someone doing their own research. If youstart looking round the insurers deals, you may conclude there's no point using a broker at all.

Possibly an act to make you think you couldn't possibly get all the right info yourself and need to keep feeding him commission to stay safe.

Broker will do/say anything to keep a customer.

    all boils down to money.....

Insurance companies make more per driver than per car so thats the bottom line,

Some other countries have the car insured and whoever drives it is covered, regardless of age, sex, experience, points etc..

    .

I disagree. Yes, you can often get cheaper quotes yourself either on the phone or online but there is a world of difference in the levels of cover. If you know what you're at, then fine but most people (IMO) do not. Obviously, though, there are some poor brokers out there too
