    Hey Guys bought a 2004 peugeot 307 2 months ago had it about 5 weeks and the gearbox went and was adviced by the mechanic it be best to change the clutch aswell? does this sound right and what price range am i looking at as he still has the car and is giving a ridiculous price, any advice appreciated:pac:

    generally good advice to replace the clutch while the box is out if it hasn't been replaced recently. There would generally be no extra labour charge.

    Yes that is right, clutch from a cheap independent garage around 330 euro, don't know about the gearbox.

    Get the clutch done as the part is cheap'ish but its the labour that costs, so do it once.

    Take some serious time to consider jumping ship as it's gonna cost the guts of what the cars worth.

    What did he quote you €2000+ ?

    If so you could probably buy a more reliable motor for that (i know it sucks atm as you are left w/o a car) but its alot to invest into a car you probably only use for A to B of that year/make

    Thanks for the replys, i just wasnt sure why he wanted to replace the clutch when it was the gearbox that went, but guess it makes sence now!! but was sickened after not having the car long, but at least it be in good nik when i get back whenever that be ;/ dreading the bill

    2nd hand gearbox plus clutch plus labour 650-850 bill ?

    were you not quoted for the work we wont start a job until we have either given a quote or got approved for x amount of hours

    i was giving a quote but he said it was a quote and can vary up or down by a little bit so it wasnt a a set price as he said he doesnt know forsure what he is going have to pay for clutch/gear box... and he is having problems getting a gearbox to fit? he has the car a while now so gonna call out to him monday and see what the craic is
