Not a question I want to be asking but unfortunately we had a mare put down today from colic.
It seemed to come out of nowhere and she deteriorated quickly, so we had no choice it seemed. Anyway the vet says that the hunts might not take a fallen horse that has been put down by injection.
    Is this the case?
If so what do people do with these horses?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Where are you based, jayroyal? I know one in a hunt-run one Kildare which should take the horse. The meat probably wouldn't be used, though, and would be sent for rendering instead.

    Sorry about your mare.
