Respite care - How much time are people entitled to?

    Wondering if anybody can help.

I have a family member who is in her early 70's and is bedridden for past number of years. She is cared for by her husband who is in his late 70's and has had a slight heart problem, Home helps come in twice a day

Over the past few months the situation has changed and the lady's condition has got worse and the HSE will be sending in home care three times a day.

We were wondering how much respite care her husband is entitled to and could a timetable of respite care be put in place. E.g a weekend every two to three months. Or must it be arranged individually every time it is felt necessary?

    Thanks
