At this stage all Courts are set up to have proceedings digitally recorded (to the best of my knowledge). Transcripts are only available currently in limited circumstances. There was a SI that allowed the request for a transcript for a small fee but I think that was done away with.

Judgements are available on-line at www.courts.ie but will only be the High Court and Supreme Court and not all cases will have a full written judgement.

Info on Digital Audio Recording, http://www.courts.ie/Courts.ie/library3.nsf/%28WebFiles%29/EABA8BDF656AE9738025756D005A2B44/$FILE/Digital%20Audio%20Recording%20-%20February%202009.pdf

DAR recordings can be got through the discovery process, http://www.staredecisishibernia.com/2013/02/05/discovery-of-audio-recording-of-district-court-hearing-ordered-in-judicial-review/

Some are, some aren't - availability, as far as I know, are limited to people who have some interest in the case. I'm assuming you mean criminal cases.

If a criminal matter that was in the Circuit Court or higher then yes. The concerned party can make an application to the court to have it made available.

If a civil matter then only if one or both of the parties arranged for a stenographer to be present.

Edit: Actually the DAR (Digital Audio Recording) operates in some of the District Courts now also.

From what I have seen DAR is pretty much in all Courts, they have a mobile version for more rural venues. The 2012 Courts Service Report http://www.courts.ie/Courts.ie/library3.nsf/%28WebFiles%29/87BE463114EF96FF80257BA20033953B/$FILE/Courts%20Service%20Annual%20Report%202012.pdf page 9.

It was a criminal case in which I was the victim and the accused was found not guilty by a jury in the circuit court. Im looking into taking a civil case and need transcripts from the criminal trial. Am I entitled to them?

No idea I'm afraid. Speak to your solicitor, I assume if they are needed and available they can be requested through discovery as mentioned by one of the posters above. Whenever I've got transcripts they've been from the DPP or the party's solicitor. I'm not a legal professional.

Your solicitor could advise if you could make a third party discovery application. Can I ask how long ago was the incident.

Less than 2 years. Which is the time limit to take a case. (Ive been told)

Normally, but I would advice moving quickly as this type of action can from a procedure point of view bring difficulties. I'm amazed that a jury trial happened that quickly.

From the date I was assaulted to trial date was 20 months.

That's fair fast, how long ago was trial.

I have been to a solicitor and started proceedings but he has asked me to do something. If I could get transcripts it would make things a lot easier for me.

So your proceedings are well in being, I am only guessing but third party discovery more than likely best bet, has your solicitor written to courts service.
