How to sell van declared off the road

Hi - sorry if this has been covered somewhere else..

I have a van (light goods) that was declared off the road - tax expired- a while ago I looked at getting it taxed again so that I could take it on the road to show to potential buyers.

The problem I came up against was that you need an insurance policy number to get it taxed. I rang insurance companies and was quoted 3 grand for a second insurance policy because my no claims policy was assigned to the family car policy.

I could not find any that would do a short term policy like they do in England apparently.

I presume I could not transfer my main insurance onto the van, get the disc using that number and then transfer it back onto the family car when I sell the van , because the family car disc is linked to that insurance policy already... or am I wrong?

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get around this ... I was thinking of just putting it in a car auction if they collect the cars and I hate the thought of haggling with people- but I heard the money cars make there isn't great.

    Thanks

Would your insurance cover them either way?

Put in the ad that it is on SORD. Then if they want a test drive, say they can once they have bought it. That way the no tax situation is their pigeon and if the van is misdescribed , you can refund them. Insurance they would need anyway
